Our House

I sometimes think of the practicality of the song “Our House” by Madness.

it would be dangerous too.

My Favorite Buildings: Braly/Continental Building

There is so much respect for skylines and obsession with landmarks that sometimes we forget that some pieces of Architecture are really great… especially in Los Angeles and they don’t have to be designed by Frank Gehry…

I must add the Braly/Continental  Building in Downtown LA as one of my favorite buildings in the Los Angeles Area.

located at 408 S. Spring Street

Designed by John Parkinson who opened a practice in 1894 in Los Angeles.

It is one of the first skyscrapers in this area… created in 1903, it has 13 floors and measures 174 ft.

It was created right as Los Angeles created a 150 ft maximum height on structures… although the city did not carry through with their stringent Haussman like ideals, and let several skyskrapers be built the 1960s and 1970s.

An interesting fact is that The Braly Building was actually the tallest building in Los Angeles until 1928 when City Hall was completed.

What makes the Braly building a lovely piece of Architecture is how stately it is. It was created in Beax Arts style and is a delicious example of the period it was built in. It is now located in the “Financial District” of Downtown, and is quite a center piece.  It can be seen from a distance and there are lovely views of it from the California Plaza, actually some of the best views of it can be seen from here for free :).

If you are ever in downtown have a look at it… it’s totally worth it

i can’t believe i wrote about architecture… do i get a prize?

About your rendering

Eric’s rendering was at first a little scary….. so I took it to the dark side…

Here is my version of Resident Evil…. greetings stranger:

Here is Darth Vader at his day job…. greeting students “Bathrooms are to the left”:

Here is Halo 3…. Level: Chapman, Game: Capture the red light :

And because it’s been like 15 minutes since I’ve mentioned her… Lady Gaga (today’s lady of choice) planning her love games:

enjoy!

Jackson Memorial: Off the Wall

The meaning of life is contained in every single expression of life. It is present in the infinity of forms and phenomena that exist in all of creation.”- Michael Jackson

I find this contest incredibly fascinating.

Designing a Memorial to Michael Jackson, this is sponsored by an architectural website called Archinect.

You can link to the rules here.

I think this should be made news to more than designers because fans could make something awesome too.

remember it has to be cooler than this:

however seeing a 100 foot tall sequined glove may be nice in the Los Angeles skyline.

The Flashy World of Architecture

I almost died when I found out there were games about architecture online.

There must be some board architects out there (me included i guess)

And then I found an online paper doll that would explain the world i work in… Architecture with fashion! (HERE)

So I was totally in.

I learned what an eraser is…

I learned what a triangle does…

I learned about T-squares and Trace, and Blue Prints…

I also realized the person who made this flash game knows nothing about architecture post 1974.

But it was fun to make this… which is nearly a replica of what happens at my work:

except no Eric, or Dab… and I don’t have that rad kind of view… however the walls are an accurate color.

also note the candles that would set your drawings on fire…

Favorite things: Wells Fargo in Azusa

I have really always loved this bank.

Not just because i use wells fargo. But because this building has always been one of my favorites in the area I live. I know it’s not the Sears Tower or the Chrysler building… nor was it designed by Franky G, or Santiago C.

But we don’t have those kind of things in the San Gabriel Valley. We have small to medium rise Art Deco buildings… we have farm houses… and we like them. To me there is nothing like the cool deliciousness of the interior of this building (not pictured due to incredible illegalness.) The floor is this dazzling terrazo and all the columns are crafted from beautful marble.

To be a part of the architectural world when there wasn’t leed… must have been marvelous and wasteful.

Architectural Greetings

I am trying to convince Jimmy that he should go into making architectural greeting cards.

Can you imagine Mies for Christmeis? Or Frank Lloyd Wright Thank y’s? Well they’d be really popular.

Here’s my first attempt… its a little into the Urban Planning side of design.

A Camillo Sitte Valentine:

it could be a wonderful thing.

The Movie I want to see: 500 Days of Summer

This is the movie I want to see this summer.

The first time I saw this trailer. I initially thought, “Summer is evil”. How can she do this to poor Joseph Gordon-Levitt. He’s the small lad from “10 things I hate about you” who “Pined and Perished” for Bianca Stratford.

And then I realized I can totally relate to Summer. Things do happen and then you should cut your losses and go on. We are young, and I am not a marm. If things suck, staying will only make things worse. And I know I may regret saying this someday, but screw it. That is how I feel right now.

And a story about love seems better than a love story.

———♥———

Also I love how they filmed in LA and didn’t make it a joke. I actually do love Los Angeles and once you get off of Hollywood Blvd. we are real people. We have bikes, and dogs, and 78% of us even have souls. Just like the rest of the world. We may not have the most structurally lush skyline like most major cities, but we have our funky good times.

And we have awesome food, music, and vintage clothing stores.

Also this made me laugh because it sounds like Jimmy and I talking… this is what we talk about. Just in case you ever wondered.

Why not Architecture?

I realized that although I love this goofy Photoshop filled site… I never write about architecture…….

I look at lots of Architecture every day... I should share it with more than Jimmy and Nancy :)

I look at lots of Architecture every day... I should share it with more than Jimmy and Nancy :) Like this sustainable house in Malaga Spain by Mecanoo Architecten

I always thought that pushing my views on architecture was bad, and would make me just like any other pretentious fool that spews their opinions about concrete. Then I realized I push a lot of thangs anyway so… I definitely think architecture is coming to Viciously Sweet.

Are you prepared?

Now that we’re talking about our professions this means Isabel… I want some blogs about Biology. And Christine I want more blogs about Trannies and Business, and business trannies.

And Jimmy… I WANT TO KNOW SO MUCH MORE ABOUT THE VALLEY!

that is all.
